What actually drives the cost of bi-folding doors
No two openings price the same. The four things that move the number, what headline quotes leave out, and where it is worth spending more.

- Cost follows the number of panels, the glazing specification, the finish and the installation.
- Structural work, drainage and making good are usually excluded from a door quote.
- A precise survey is worth more than a low panel price.
The honest answer to what bi-folding doors cost is that no two openings are alike, so no two prices are. What can be explained is what moves the number up and down, and it is usually not the glass.
The four things that set the price
The number of panels and the size of the opening. The glazing specification, including whether you need acoustic laminated glass or solar control. The finish, whether that is a standard powder coat colour or something bespoke. And the installation: how easy the opening is to reach, what has to be lifted into place, and how the groundworks and drainage are handled.
What headline quotes leave out
Structural work to form or widen the opening usually sits with your builder rather than the door supplier, and it is often the single largest cost on the job. Making good inside and out, the deck or paving that meets the threshold, and the building control fee all sit outside the door price too.
Compare quotes on what is included, not just the total. A modest panel price with an expensive site package is not a cheap job.
Where the money is well spent
Pay for the survey, the drainage detail and the installation, because those decide whether the door still runs smoothly in five years. Pay for the glazing if the elevation is noisy, overlooked or faces the sun for most of the day.
Where there is genuine room to save, it is normally in the finish and in the optional hardware, not in the frame or the fitting.
